We come together.

This community exists so we can be with each other. Through unity. To laugh. To have fun. To sit in the same room and feel like we belong to something.

There is a lot of negativity in the world. It is a gift to see Black films with Black people that are uplifting and inspiring — couples that show us love, people going after their dreams, everything that being Black exemplifies.

These days there is not enough of us on the screen. The Black Cinema Club was created to highlight the ones who made a way — pictures like Hidden Figures, where we are seen and celebrated. And pictures like Brown Sugar, where Black couples and Black love get to take the whole frame.

It is also here for the ones still making a way for us to appear. The work is not finished. A Different World is on Netflix. Hillman is still on the screen. That matters.

Communities like this, groups like this, are important. That is why we gather. That is the purpose.
